White Birch
Betula papyrifera
Soil Preference: Acid soil, Moist, well-drained soil. Light Exposure: Full sun

White Cedar
Thuja occidentalis
Foliage tends to discolor in winter. This species is tolerant of shearing. Prefers consistent moisture but not wet soil. Keep mulched to moderate soil temperature swings. Best growth occurs in full sun to part shade.

White Oak
Quercus alba
Does not tolerate wet conditions, best planted in well-drained sites. Light Exposure: Full sun

White Pine
Pinus strobus
Prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil in sun, although young trees tolerate light shade. Avoid planting in open, windy sites. Very cold tolerant.

White Spruce
Picea glauca
Best in full sun. Tolerant of clay soil but good drainage is a must. The shallow, spreading root system benefits from a 3-4” layer of organic mulch. Low maintenance.

Witch Hazel
Hamamelis
Performs best in moist, well-drained soil high in organic matter, but can tolerate clay soil. Mulch to keep soil moist. Avoid dry conditions. One of the most salt-tolerant shrubs. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade, Full shade
