Our Trees
We have a very large variety of trees to choose from.

American Hazelnut
Corylus americana
Full Sun to medium shade. They prefer a moist, well drained soil, but they tolerate clay soil well too. They also handle alkaline soils and drought just fine. If planted near in wet soil or along a pond, expect it to sucker a lot.

Balsam Fir
Abies balsamea
Balsam fir is very cold hardy, but does not do well in hot, humid summers. It prefers an acid, well drained soil, but can tolerate sites that are more consistently moist. Does poorly on dry exposed sites. Full sun to full shade.

Basswood
Tilia americana
Best in moist, well-drained soils. Adaptable to alkaline soils. Full sun, Partial sun/shade.

Bitternut Hickory
Carya cordiformis
Bitternut Hickory prefers deep, moist well-drained soils, but is often found in drier conditions. Full sun, partial sun/shade, full shade

Black Cherry
Prunus serotina
The tree grows best in a slightly acid to neutral pH soil. Avoid wet sites. Full sun, partial sun/shade

Black Elderberry
Sambucus nigra
Soil Preference: Acid soil, Alkaline soil, Moist, well-drained soil, Wet soil. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade, Full shade

Black Gum
Nyssa sylvatica
Prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soils high in organic matter. Best in full sun.

Black Maple
Acer nigrum
Soil Preference: Acid soil, Moist, well-drained soil. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade, Full shade

Black Oak
Quercus velutina
Soil Preference: Acid soil, Dry soil. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade

Black Spruce
Picea mariana
Soil Preference: Acid soil, Moist, well-drained soil, Wet soil. Light Exposure: Full sun

Bladdernut
Staphylea trifolia
Best used as an understory plant in moist, shady sites. Soil Preference: Alkaline soil, Moist, well-drained soil. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade, Full shade

Blue Beech
Carpinus caroliniana
Soil Preference: Acid soil, Moist, well-drained soil, Wet soil. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade, Full shade
Blue Spruce
Picea pungens
Spruce grow best in full sun. Dense shade results in bare branches. Protect from drying winds. Adaptable to wide range of soil but require good drainage and benefits from irrigation in dry weather.

Bur Oak
Quercus macrocarpa
Full sun in well drained soil, but adaptable to many soils. Drought tolerant once established.

Butternut
Juglans cinerea
This species prefers rich, moist soils but can also tolerate drier sites. Produces a chemical, juglone, which is toxic to many plants. Light Exposure: Full sun, Partial sun/shade
